Ka Ua Moaniani Lehua O Puna

In a time when water is at the forefront of our thoughts, I wanted to celebrate it through this print. Every place in Hawaii has their own specific rains: Tuahine, rain of Mãnoa, Kipu'upu'u, rain of Waimea, and Ka Ua Kani Lehua, rain of Hilo. These famous rains are honored in mele and their imagery is embodied by hula dancers in their choreography. It made me think, "What is the rain of where I'm from?" The rain of Puna is called Ka Ua Moaniani Lehua,the rain that brings the fragrance of Lehua.

I want to inspire people to learn the rains of the place that they are from. As simple as it sounds, these rains bring life to the lands they are a part of and make them special. When something is special, we care for it and protect it. Knowing and embracing the rain of your homeland is a small but significant way to stay connected to water. Ola!
